Artists Caravan [open studio] event will be held on the 28 and 29 Jan 2012.

An art exhibition showcasing art works from members of Artists Caravan will be held from the 21 Jan to 19 Feb 2012. There are also workshops for kids and adults.

Artists Caravan will be having a table and conducting a free workshop with the public on urban transformation this sat, dec 10, at hong lim park, from 3pm to 8pm. Our member, artist, Chan Mei Hsien, will also be displaying a series of drawings.

This is part of the ‘Singapore Unity Project Commemorates International Human Rights Day’ [http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=172626642830327] which features a number of ‘booths’ from various local NGOs, music and art installation.

Box of stories | A memory box workshop

She presents you a memory box. It is decorated on all sides – hand drawn and coloured with odd bits and pieces sticking to it. You open it and there are objects. Words, photographs, really old things, organic things, synthetic things, some that seem random and mundane, and things that you will never suspect meant anything at all. You look through them carefully one by one. Stories reveal themselves, connecting one object to the other as you explore. Slowly you close the box. The writings and drawings on the sides now breathe new meaning. They envelope all stories into one. And a new world opens.

In this workshop, we make a memory box to tell stories of our identities and histories.

Please bring

1. a personal story that you wish to share

2. objects related to your story that you wish to put in the box

3. an open mind

4. the spirit to participate

Please note that this workshop is for adults.

Shuxia and Jiaxin are friends from the same university who have studied community arts and popular education with great interests. Both have done photovoice (photogaphy) projects with youths and creative art workshops with migrant workers on different occasions. Their joint initiatives includes the Kokoro post card project which aims to (re)connect and encourage people using community art. Shuxia has also worked with Artists Caravan as an invited artist on the Manicured Nature Art Project. There, she presented an art installation and held a public workshop to make an earth blanket.

About Manicured Nature
Manicure Nature: Investigating Inter-Dependence of Urban–Nature Relationships is a Community and Public Art project organized by Artists Caravan. The objective for this project is to facilitate process driven programs, and interactive artworks that will ultimately result in site-specific dialogue.

Manicured Nature workshop series

Visit the Dairy Farm Nature Park on this Earth day, 22 April 2011 and view the artists in residence, work in progress at the Wallace Environmental Learning Lab(WELL).

For 6 weeks since 15 March, 15 artists/creative individuals takes Dairy Farm Nature Park as their site of inquiry, investigating on the
interdependence of urban-nature relationship.

…Their work in progress will culminate eventually into an Art exhibition, ‘Manicured Nature’, showcasing their art works from this period of creative process and collaboration with groups or individuals, from the 7 May to 29 June.

*Manicured Nature possesses paradoxical connotation. We, urban dwellers are familiar with territorial divisions demarcating one place from another, outlining terrains to fulfill disparate functions for humankind. For instance, area for conservation and appreciation of biodiversity in our region, as a retreat from urban living and a site that witnessed extraordinary events recorded in the annals of history in which needs to be preserve, and so on.
